BRUSSELS — The European Union has formally opened a new cluster in its ongoing accession negotiations with Ukraine, a move lauded by Kyiv as the initiation of the final phase in its long-pursued bid for membership. This significant development underscores the EU's confirmed commitment to its enlargement policy, according to statements from the presiding body.
This latest procedural advancement marks a crucial juncture for Ukraine, which received EU candidate status in June 2022. The opening of an additional cluster, which groups specific policy areas for negotiation, signifies tangible progress beyond the initial bureaucratic hurdles and into substantive discussions on adopting EU law.
Ukrainian officials expressed strong optimism regarding the announcement.
